After upset the No.1 seeded pair from Purdue to advance to the finals in doubles, Julia Fellerhoff and Rebecca Shine beat the Memphis pair of Alyssa Hibberd and Caroline Wegner 8-5 in the championship of the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Tennis Tournament Tuesday morning in Memphis. The pair earned a doubles slot in the ITA National Indoor Tournament which will be held in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. November 7-9. “Wow, what an amazing accomplishment! Winning an event like this puts Louisville Women’s Tennis on an elite level,” said U of L head coach Mark Beckham. “Julia and Becca will be competing with the best of the best at the National Indoor. I couldn’t have scripted it any better.
These two girls have raised Louisville tennis to where it is respected throughout the college tennis world. They have worked very hard to get to this level and are very deserving of this championship! They played absolutely amazing and now it’s time to see if they can make some noise at the National Indoor. Our Louisville tennis fans should be very proud of them.” Fellerhoff and Shine beat Memphis’ Marta Morga and Skylar Kuykendall 8-3 on Sunday and then made quick work of Krisztina Kapitany and Mara Schmidt of Purdue on Monday with an 8-3 win to gain the finals.
