Geibel Wins Makai Invitational

Princeville, Hawaii – University of Louisville men’s golfer Robert Geibel captured medalist honors by winning a three-player playoff on the ninth hole at the Princeville Makai Invitational on Wednesday.

As a team, the Cardinals concluded the fall season by finishing one shot behind the winner, Cal-State Fullerton. The Titans won the tournament with an 822, as the Cardinals finished with a school record total of 823. Louisville bested the old school record of 834, which they achieved in 2008 at the Cardinal Intercollegiate.

For the three-day tournament, the Cardinals shot a 41-under par 275-275-273=823. Geibel defeated Mark Anguiano of Cal-State Fullerton and Chad Ramey of Mississippi State when he defeated the two players on the first playoff hole. Geibel was on fire for the whole tournament, shooting 67-67-67=201, which was one shot of off the school record total of 200 by Daryl Fathauer in 2007-08 at the Alister MacKenzie Tournament.
