With the July evaluation period in full swing, there is always some kind of recruiting news going on. This isn’t going to be as detailed as the weekly notebook that we put out on Monday’s (which you should check out), but it will just be some quick-hitters to update you on who Coach Pitino and his staff (Kenny Johnson and Wyking Jones) watched on Wednesday evening while they were at the Under Armour event in Georgia.
*The staff began the night watching 6’9 power forward Aric Holman, who plays for Owensboro High School in Kentucky. Holman has gotten off to a great start this summer and has really started to turn some heads. He unofficially visited Louisville back in March. Although he doesn’t have an offer yet from the Cards, the bigger offers are starting to roll in, including Memphis and Oklahoma State.
*Kenny Johnson checked in on 5-star (ESPN) small forward Derrick Jones.
*The recently offered PG/SG Donovan Mitchell had a great showing in front of the coaches as he went for 26 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds, and 6 steals. He did reiterate that he plans to take official visits to both Louisville and Indiana sometime in the coming weeks.
*Pitino also watched Eli Wright, who plays for Apollo High School in Kentucky. He is a shooting guard in the class of 2016. 247 Sports rates him as a 3-star player. Wright was in Louisville for an unofficial visit in June.
Stay tuned for more quick-hitters in the next few days, and don’t forget to check out the recruiting notebook on Monday, which does into more detail on who the Cards are recruiting the hardest.
