The Miami Hurricanes will visit Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium in less than 4 weeks. Yes, it is getting close! When they do, they will likely be down to their third quarterback. Ryan Williams, a senior who was expected to start, tore his ACL in the spring and he won’t be ready in time. Next up was thought to be freshman Kevin Olsen, who is 6’3 and comes from New Jersey. He has now been suspended for the season opener because of a failed drug test.
So now things likely fall to Jake Heaps, a fifth year player who has only been at Miami for a few weeks. He started his career at BYU where he was the starter as a freshman. After he lost his starting job the next season, he transferred to Kansas, where he threw 8 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Then he transferred to Miami for his final season.
Heaps is at his third school since beginning his college career. He has thrown for 32 touchdowns and 27 interceptions while completing only 54.8% of his passes. If Heaps isn’t the starter, it will be a freshman, either Brad Kaaya or Malik Rosier.
Look for a heavy dose of running back Duke Johnson for the ‘Canes on September 1st.
