GREENSBORO, N.C. – Louisville sophomore midfielder Andrew Brody was named as the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week on Tuesday after leading the nationally ranked Cardinals to a victory over No. 2 Maryland last Friday.
Brody headed in the only goal of the match in the 54th minute of play to lift the Cardinals to a 1-0 victory over the Terrapins in the season-opener for both clubs. Playing in front of a standing room only crowd of 7,047 in Louisville’s debut match at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium, Brody received a cross from junior Ricardo Velazco and sent it into the upper left corner of the net for the decisive goal, the fourth career tally for the native of Orlando, Fla.
Also on Tuesday, Brody was named to the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week for his work in the triumph over Maryland. Last season, Brody was a TopDrawerSoccer Freshman XI First Team selection and was named to the Soccer America All-Freshman Second Team after scoring three goals with eight assists.
Ranked No. 5 in this week’s Soccer America Top 25, the Cardinals will return to action against Cornell on Friday at 8:30 p.m., ET at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium.
