This week on 55…………
We talk Basketball watch party. We talk big win over Notre Dame. We talk ranked teams and end of seasons. I will share a story of my trip to Notre Dame, a gallery of the trip and more tidbits as we go. We talk kentucky football and much, much more. So without further adieu, get ready for the ride. Without further interruption, here are the things from this week that stood out to me the most. The most ridiculous, interesting and factual things I came across. This is 55……….
I am darn proud to fly the flag of the Cards after an impressive 31-28 win over Notre Dame at historical Notre Dame Stadium. Reggie Bonnafon came up huge scoring the games first 2 TD’s and throwing for one to Devante Parker. Brandon Radcliff continued his dominance and ran for 136 yards and 1 TD. Bonnafon had 67 yards and 2 TD’s and Dyer added 68 yards rushing. Bonnafon also threw for 180 yards and a TD despite only going 8-21 and an INT. Devante had 4 catches for 65 yards and a TD ending his hot streak even though he got 65 yards after being doubled most of the game. Kai De La Cruz added 2 catches for 70 yards including a huge 3rd down conversion. T Floyd had 8 tackles and Keith Kelsey had 6 including a sack. Charles Gaines had 1 INT and Holliman was shut out but wasn’t thrown at much. James Burgess added a sack and Deangelo Brown’s sack on a key 3rd down that pushed the Irish out of makeable FG range. Clearly the Defensive play of the game. The Cards face uk Saturday at noon.
The Cards dispatched Jacksonville State 88-39 Monday night at the YUM! Montrezl Harrell led the team with points and 7 rebounds. Chris Jones added 10 points, 5 assists, 5 steals and 6 rebounds. Rozier scored 13 and Wayne & Onuaku scored 12 a piece. Nanu recorded 10 rebounds which gave him his first career double-double. Wayne & Mango both had 9 rebounds.
On Friday the Cards defeated Marshall 85-67. Chris Jones went for 18 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists. Terry Rozier had 17 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Montrezl Harrell went for 12 points and 8 rebounds. Wayne Blackshear went for 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Nanu recorded his second straight double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Mango had 3 blocks and 11 rebounds. Levitch went for 6 points and 2 steals. The Cards take on Savannah State tonight and Cleveland State Wednesday in the final game of the Global Sports Showcase.
Here is your week in Cardinal Athletics:
Swimming and Diving:
The #5 ranked Men;s and #17 ranked Women’s S&D teams both won the Louisville invitational this weekend. The Men’s team won with 2,261, followed by WKU 1,181; Missouri 1,157; UConn 1,083 and SIU 913. The Women won with 1,872, WKU 1,566, UConn 1,282, Missouri State 1,069 and SIU 795 for the final standings. The Cards will travel to North Carolina on December the 4th for the USA Short Course Nationals.
The Ladies go undefeated this week with wins over Belmont and Ball State. 6 Cards scored in double figures including 17 by Mariya Moore to lead #12 UofL to the victory. Against Ball State, Mariya Moore led the team with 22 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Myisha Hines-Allen, Louisville’s only other double-figure scorer, produced 14 points and two rebounds. The Cards have 3 games this week. Tuesday vs WKU, Lafayette Friday and at Valpo on Sunday.
The Women’s Volleyball team dropped 2 this week to Duke and UNC bringing their record to 15-14 overall. This has been a transition season for the Cards that has been full of tough love but will only make us better. The team concludes their regular season vs Pitt on Wednesday at 4 on ESPN3 at Cardinal Arena.
University of Louisville’s Edwin Kibichiy and Ernest Kibet wrap up an impressive cross-country season finishing 23rd and 32nd respectively at the NCAA Championships on Saturday afternoon Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind.
The redshirt sophomore, Kibichiy clocked at time of 30:44.7 to finish in 23rd place, in his national championship debut. Kibet, a junior, clocked a time of 30:50.8 to finish in 32nd place, a 112-place improvement from his national championships debut in 2013.
The Cards overcome a 1-0 deficit to defeat Saint Louis 2-1 in the round of 32 at Lynn Stadium. The cards trailed 1-0 in the 67th minute once Saint Louis’s Francisco Vizcaino knocks in the header. It didn’t take UL long to respond once Andrew Brody scored the tying goal just 2 minutes and 49 seconds later. With about 4 minutes left in the match Tim Kubel knocked in the game winner sending the Cards into the sweet 16 Sunday at Lynn Stadium. The Cards avenged a loss from earlier in this season. The Cards were looking forward to the Sweet 16 matchup against #4 Maryland whom they beat earlier in the season. Not so fast my friend. UMBC upset Maryland and will travel to Louisville for a shot at the Elite 8.
