Another day, another couple of Louisville Cardinals earning ACC weekly honors. This time around it is baseball player Kyle Funkhouser and women’s basketball player Mariya Moore.
Funkhouser – ACC Pitcher of the Week
Kyle Funkhouser was named ACC Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Not only that, he was also named as a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. The junior righthander gave up just one hit in seven shutout innings in Friday’s season opening 5-1 win over Alabama State. Funkhouser also added 12 strikeouts. He is now 19-4 in his collegiate career. Not too bad!
The 7th ranked Cards (2-1) are scheduled to have their home opener on Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET against Eastern Kentucky.
Moore – ACC Freshman of the Week
When you score the most points for a UofL freshman since Shoni Schimmel, you are probably doing something right. Mariya Moore scored 28 points on Sunday to lead the Cards to a comeback win over 17th ranked North Carolina 75-66. Add that to her 15 point and 8 assist performance against Clemson, and you see why Moore was named ACC Freshman of the Week.
The Cards play at Virginia Tech on Thursday on ESPN3 at 7 p.m. ET.
