If you follow football recruiting, then by now you know who Jawon Pass is. And you know that he is down to three schools: Louisville, Auburn, and Alabama. Pass is set to announce his decision on July 16.
Steve Jones of the Courier Journal posted a very insightful article on Friday afternoon about Pass and his recruitment. He has quotes from one very important person: Jawon’s mother.
Kershena Thomas seems to think that Louisville could have an advantage already on campus, and that is Jawon’s brother Khane, who is a freshman safety on the football team.
“They’re connected at the hip and the head,” she said with a laugh. “They are extremely close. I thought Jawon was going to need counseling when Khane left (for college).”
So Khane being at Louisville could play a role?
“Oh, that’s going to play a big part in it,” she said. “That’s going to be a big factor. The fact that they’re so close and Khane is already there, that gives Louisville a big advantage over anyone else. … Jawon is loving the (U of L) program anyway, (but) that’s the big plus for them. Jawon will say that’s not the main thing, but I think it is.”
Thomas doesn’t know if her son has a favorite as he prepares to announce his decision on July 16, but she said she hears most often from Louisville and Alabama and feels certain those two are standing out. Thomas hasn’t been in contact with Auburn much lately.
A lot of people mention Bobby Petrino when it comes to a quarterback coming to UofL or not. People tend to overlook offensive coordinator Garrick McGee. Pass certainly isn’t.
“He thinks that Coach McGee is a genius,” she said. “He thinks he can have him greatly prepared for the next level. He loves Coach McGee.
“He thinks their scheme is a great fit for him. He’s in love with that staff there.”
We will see how this all shakes out. Even after July 16, it will be a long way until signing day in February. Louisville is in the mix with the heavyweights, but can they seal the deal with this one?
