ACC Football: What to watch for on Saturday

I am going to enjoy the heck out of typing this post about college football. By the way, is this the WORST time ever as a Louisville fan to have a bye week in football? Either way, there are some important games that Cards fans can keep up with tomorrow that could have a lot of say in the ACC race, which Louisville is still in by the way.

Clemson vs Georgia Tech – 3:30 p.m.

The most important game is probably Georgia Tech (2-3, 0-2) at #6 Clemson (4-0, 1-0.) Louisville fans have to be all in on the Yellow Jackets in this one. In order for Louisville to win the ACC Atlantic, Clemson has to lose one more game than UofL loses. Let’s just play it out like Louisville wins out and only has 1 conference loss. So Clemson would need at least 2 conference losses.

After playing Georgia Tech, who runs the triple option and is always a threat to any team, Clemson still has some tough games left. They host Boston College, who is decent and has a good defense. They travel to Miami, which sounded more intimidating about 20 years ago. They then have a road game at NC State. Then they return home to face Florida State. Now obviously, that looks like the best chance for a team to beat the Tigers. Their last two ACC games are at Syracuse and home against Wake Forest, both probably wins.

So essentially, you are looking at Clemson needing to lose two games out of Florida State, NC State, Boston College, Miami, and Georgia Tech…that isn’t a big stretch. It can definitely happen.

Florida State vs Miami – 8:00 p.m.

The other big ACC game worth watching is Miami at Florida State. For this one, yeah you can hope Florida State gets a conference loss. But if the plan for Louisville is to win out, then a loss for Florida State against Miami would do nothing more than drop their ranking and probably re-focus them. A win and FSU probably climbs into the top 10, or at least stays right outside of it.

So those are the two ACC games that can help you get through this Saturday of non-Louisville football when Louisville football is needed now more than ever. Clemson-Georgia Tech play at 3:30 on ABC or ESPN2 and Miami-Florida State play at 8:00 on ABC.

Enjoy your Saturday folks. We all deserve it.
