It took a little longer than some expected or wanted, but both VJ King and Frankie Hughes are now officially Louisville Cardinals. Hughes sent in his letter of intent early in the day. King made us wait until about 8:30 pm on Wednesday night.

Hughes is a 3-star guard that committed to Louisville just as all of the recent scandal stuff was heating up. He chose the Cards over Wisconsin on a day where I said “Oh yeah, I am sure we will get a basketball commit today” in a slightly sarcastic tone. The 6’4 Hughes is from Garfield Heights, Ohio and attends the same high school that Terry Rozier went to.

I was asked numerous times throughout the day if VJ King had signed yet. Finally, I was able to send out some texts in the evening and say that it was finally official.

King is a 5-star small forward who played his high school ball in both Ohio and Virginia. He is a top-30 player on all four major recruiting sites. Keeping him committed is huge for Rick Pitino and the Cards.

Check out his tweet after signing. You have to love his attitude already. Just don’t worry about how “Louisville” is spelled just yet. Blame that on his excitement in the moment.
