This is my first official post at CSZ and I debated a multitude of things to write about. Starting with basketball was simple. While we await the bowl game, basketball is at the forefront of Louisville sports and there is no better way to spend the holidays than to debate something regarding Louisville sports. So for my first post, I wanted something that people could talk about here or twitter or wherever.
It has been an interesting start to the Louisville basketball season that included its share of ups and downs. One tremendous upside has been the play of 5th year transfers Damion Lee and Trey Lewis. Their obvious basketball skills are undeniable, but lost in the aesthetically pleasing aspect of their respective games is their leadership on and off the court for a young Cardinal team.
Many people refer to them as either their names or makes up something different each time they speak. In the era of Golden State and the ‘Splash Brothers’ or our more local ‘Bash Brothers’ I wanted to know what should we call our 5th year transfers?
I have a few ideas but would love to hear others as well. My ideas are as follows:
Plus Ones
The Ticket
Flash Brothers
NKOTB (not really)
Plus Ones
A homage to Sean Moth’s foul and score language. It drove me nuts for years that he refused to say ‘and one’ like every other announcer and the awesome shoe brand (I kid) while opting to use the less common “plus one.”
This clearly works because the 5th years are here after graduating and adding one more year to their college careers. It doesn’t hurt that they are inflicting harm on opposing defenses.
The Ticket
A little less creative, but during the Michigan State game I saw many people tweet out Lee/Lewis ’16. In a campaign driven year, it is only natural to think of them as a pair of running mates on the LL ticket. The name that came to me was ‘The Ticket’ which is not very creative but it gets the point across and could make for cool campaign posters.
Flash Brothers
In the same vein as the common name for Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, Flash Brothers seemed adequate. I toyed with the idea of Slash Brothers for their ability to score, but decided that name sounds more like serial killers than basketball players. Flash brothers could define their abilities to get to the goal or to find space on the court to make a great pass.
New Kids On The Block
No…not happening
Feel free to submit your own ideas for names in the comments or on twitter or somewhere. I look forward to reading other names.
