Well, the chatter began on Monday afternoon and I was going to wait until an official announcement was made. But this pretty much makes it official to me. Lamar Thomas will be leaving the University of Louisville (or has already left) to be the wide receivers coach for the University of Kentucky. His twitter bio pretty much solidifies that. By the way, the most recent retweet is pretty comical now.
We haven’t heard from Thomas, so I realize that some of this is kind of jumping the gun. But it sounds like he may make more money at Kentucky, and there are also rumblings that it wasn’t really his decision to not be back at Louisville.
It was also said by multiple media members on Monday that Thomas didn’t exactly coach the wide receivers at Louisville anyway, but graduate assistant Nick Petrino did. Thomas was more of a recruiter. He was a good one, don’t get me wrong. But there are a lot of good recruiters out there. Apparently, he wasn’t the main recruiter on anyone in the 2016 class for Louisville, so signing day for the Cards should not be hampered by this news.
