No. 10 Louisville Battles the Pittsburgh Panthers In The Last Game of the Regular Season

Louisville, KY — The Louisville Cardinals soar to a galaxy far far away as Jedi Master Jeff Walz prepares his tenth-ranked Jedi Cardinals for the Pittsburgh Panthers of the Dark Side.
The Louisville Cardinals are celebrating the last regular season game by honoring Star Wars. So come out to the KFC Yum! Center at 12:30PM dressed as your favorite Star Wars character and join in the fun as Louisville caps off a spectacular season.

Louisville is currently on a five game win streak and has won 20 of their last 21 contests. The Cardinals have earned the No. 2 seed in next week’s ACC Tournament in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Last Time Out 

Louisville proved their dominance with a 71-59 road win against the No. 17 Miami Hurricanes. The Cardinals finished the regular season with an 8-0 record on the road in ACC play.

Louisville had four players post double-figures: Myisha Hines-Allen paced the Cardinals posting 15 points while grabbing nine boards, four assists and two blocks. Mariya Moore racked up 14 points connecting on a team-best four from beyond the arc. Briahanna Jackson tallied 13 points and a team-high six defensive rebounds. Asia Durr rounded out the top scorers adding 11 points.

Adrienne Motley led the Hurricanes with 12 points while Khalia Prather led Miami on the board pulling down five rebounds.

The keys to the Cardinals success were rebounds, scoring off turnovers and second chance points. Louisville held a 53-28 advantage on the board and converted 18 Miami turnovers into 30 points

Power Players

Myisha Hines-Allen leads Louisville in scoring putting up 16.7 points and pulling down 8 rebounds while connecting on 52.8% of her shots. Mariya Moore sits at second racking up 15 points while dishing out 132 assists on the season. Briahanna Jackson is tallying 11 points and collecting a team-best 63 steals. Asia Durr rounds out the top scorers chipping in 10.9 points per game.

Cortnee Walton leads the Cardinals on the offensive glass, pulling down 124 on the season while chipping in 6.4 points per game.

Scouting the Panthers

The Pitt Panthers enter Sunday’s match fresh off a 66-60 loss to Georgia Tech on Thursday at home in the Petersen Events Center.

The Panthers trailed the Yellow Jackets, 31-18 at the half. However, Pitt came out hot in the third period nearly erasing a 13-point deficit.

With only 1:09 remaining in the contest, the Panthers had cut the Yellow Jackets’ lead to two. But a bucket by Georgia Tech and a defensive stop sealed the victory for the Yellow Jackets.

Despite losing the contest, the Panthers outscored the Yellow Jackets 14-6 in second chance points, while converting 15 Georgia Tech turnovers into 15 points.

Yancine Diop paced the Panthers racking up 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field. Aysia Bugg picked up 16 points while Kalista Walters added 10 points and pulled down a team-best seven boards.

Brenna Wise is leading Pitt in scoring tallying 10.1 points per game and grabbing a team-best 133 defensive rebounds on the season. Diop falls close behind Wise, adding 10 points per game. Bugg has dished out a team-high 107 assists and Stasha Carey has swatted a team-best 1.63 blocks per game.

Louisville and Pittsburgh tip-off at 12:30 PM EST. The contest will air on the Regional Sports Network/FOX (Fox Sports South in Louisville).
