Lamar Jackson will enter the 2017 season looking to do what only one college football player has ever done. That is the tall task of repeating as the Heisman Trophy winner. Several players have been invited back to New York as a Heisman finalist the year after winning the award but only Ohio State’s Archie Griffin has heard his name called in consecutive years (1974 and 1975).
Coming into the 2016 season, Lamar Jackson had not been the starting quarterback for two consecutive games and wasn’t considered to be a Heisman candidate. In fact, when the Las Vegas sports books released their early odds to win the Heisman Trophy in May of 2016, Lamar was listed as 100-1. That is proof enough that it’s pretty hard to predict who will win the 2017 award. All you can do it gather information and stats from the previous year and make your best guess.
Pro Football Focus has come out with their top 10 candidates for the 2017 Heisman Trophy and you already know who #1 is. Check out the list to see who they think will give Lamar a run for his money.
