What UofL Football Means To Me

Petrino round 1

It is finally here, the most wonderful time of the year. Football season in the Ville is one of the most electrifying times the city sees. There is something different about this season though, and I can’t seem to put my finger on it. I am not sure if it is because we have the greatest quarterback in the country playing for us, or if is because I know this team has the ability to make a deep run this year. Regardless of what it is, I am ready for it.

Football has always been a big part of the Goben family life. We haven’t missed a regular season game or bowl game, in I don’t know how many years. I remember when UofL was in the 2004 Liberty Bowl and it was just supposed to be the “adults” going to the actual game, but I somehow got a ticket. It wasn’t near as cold as it had been in years past, but I was still freezing of course, but I never mentioned it. I didn’t want to ruin my chances of going to another game in the future. So I sat there, in this huge, jersey (see above photo), and just soaked it all in. Now, fast forward 9 years when we won the Sugar Bowl, you’d think my family had won the lottery. It will always be one of my favorite memories. I can’t wait to see what havoc we raise when we make it to the Playoffs.

So here we are, a little over 24 hours away from the start of the 2017 season. I will be making the trip up to Indy with some of my best friends, and I feel like a kid trying to sleep on Christmas Eve. I can’t wait to be with the people I care about the most, while hanging out with thousands of our closest friends. Do I think we win the National Championship this year? Maybe not. But do I think we have a fair shot at making the College Football Playoffs? Yes. Last year, I got to wear the jersey that 12 year old Katie wore to the Liberty Bowl in 2004, to College Game Day, and it was awesome. So no matter what happens this season, I will have that same jersey on, having the time of my life, cheering on the cards.

LAMAR FOR HEISMAN!
