2017-2018 ACC Conference Basketball Schedule Released

University of Louisville’s men basketball ACC conference schedule was re- released today. North Carolina and Syracuse are both making their ways to the KFC Yum! Center this season. Louisville will be heading to Duke and Notre Dame throughout the season as well. Here are all the match ups for the upcoming basketball season.

Louisville Ranked Preseason 12 By Sporting News

In the latest preseason rankings, the Louisville Cardinals are ranked 12 by Sporting News. Lamar Jackson still needs to improve his passing game and the defense needs to find its rhythm under its new coordinator, Peter Sirmon. If these pieces fall into place as we all expect them to, we are in for another fun season. Sporting News has Alabama as preseason number one with USC and Ohio State rounding out the top three. Florida State comes in at number four and reigning national champion Clemson rounds out the top five.

Jackson, Alexander Named All-ACC Preseason

IMG_1747Lamar Jackson and Jaire Alexander are quite the duo, their latest preseason accolade is they have both been named to the All-ACC Preseason team. Both Cardinals received more than 100 votes, with Jackson receiving a league high of 132, with little surprise to anyone. Catch Alexander and Jackson in action when the Cards open up the 2017 season on September 2nd at 7:30 versus Purdue at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Lamar Jackson Named To The Davey O’Brien Award Preseason Watch List

img_4553Cardinal quarterback, Lamar Jackson has been named to the Davey O’Brien Award Preseason Watch List, an award he was a finalist for last season. The junior demolished record after record in 2016, one being that he finished with 51 touchdowns, the most in school and ACC history.  Three finalists for the O’Brien Award will be announced on November 20, and the award will be handed out live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on December 7.

Even other teams and coaches have taken notice. Now he is being honored officially for work on and off the field. Lamar Jackson has been named to the Wuerffel Watch List.

Cards Picked To Finish 3rd In ACC

The Louisville Cardinals were picked to finish third last week at the ACC Kickoff. Florida State is picked to win the ACC Championship by receiving 118 of the 167 votes. Clemson finished second with 35 votes and Louisville with 7. The same order was picked for the ACC Atlantic division. Lamar Jackson was the overwhelming favorite to win consecutive ACC Player of The Year honors. The Cardinals open up the 2017 season on Saturday, September 2nd at 7:30 PM against Purdue at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Hearns And Young Named To Dick Butkus Preseason Watch List

louieSenior Linebackers James Hearns and Trevon Young have been named to the the Dick Butkus watch list. Hearns had a career high forty-three tackles last year and started in twelve games last season. Young had a standout 2015 season, but suffered an injury in the Music City bowl that sidelined him for the 2016 season.

Jaire Alexander Named To Jim Thorpe Watch List

Junior, Jaire Alexander, has been named to his third preseason watch list. Today’s honor is the coveted Jim Thorpe watch list. This award is given to the best defensive back in college football. It not only highlights the student athlete’s athletic abilities, but their character off the field as well. The Thorpe Award Winner is selected from three finalists and will be announced at The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, December 7, 2017, on ESPN.

Drew Bailey And Geron Christian Named To Outland Trophy Watch List

The latest Cards to get some preseason recognition are defensive lineman, Drew Bailey and two year starter for on the offensive line, Geron Christian.  This list only consists of interior lineman. The winner of the 72nd Outland Trophy – named after the late John Outland, an All-America lineman at Penn at the turn of the 20th century – will be announced live on ESPN at The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 7.

The preseason awards continue to roll in for the University of Louisville football team. The next player being honored is Kentucky native, Blanton Creque. As a redshirt freshman last year, Creque tied the school record when he successfully hit four field goals in the win against NC State. Creque finished the season third in the ACC with a 84.2 field goal percentage. He is one of 30 student-athletes named to the watch list, with the winner to be announced December 7th during the Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
