Louisville At North Carolina: Postgame Recap

Well, it may not have been pretty and there were certainly some head-scratching moments. But the #17 Louisville Cardinals went into North Carolina and took care of business, beating the Tar Heels 47-35.

Once again, it was the Lamar Jackson show. Jackson compiled 525 total yards (393 passing and 132 rushing) and added 6 touchdowns evenly split through the air and on the ground. We also saw the emergence of the running game in Malik Williams. Williams showed great vision, finishing with 149 yards on 13 carries, none bigger than his 74-yard burst in the 4th quarter. The receiving trio of Jaylen Smith, Dez Fitzpatrick and Seth Dawkins proved themselves once again. Smith finished with 9 receptions for 173 yards, including a 75-yard bomb for a touchdown. Fitzpatrick continued his breakout year with 78 yards on 4 catches and 2 touchdowns. Dawkins was quiet but reliable today, he finished with 3 catches for 45 yards and a mean stiff-arm.

The defense showed some major issues today. At times, they seemed dominant, but as a whole they were beaten repeatedly in the passing game. That will definitely need to be worked on before Clemson comes to town next week. However, with Jaire Alexander expected to return next week, we can all feel a little better.

Another hard-fought win, that probably would’ve ended in a loss at the end of last season. This team’s resiliency thus far is very reassuring going forward. Now it’s time to fix what can be fixed and shift the focus to Clemson. Oh, one more thing, please continue to trash on Lamar Jackson, I’m sure he’ll have no problem going Super Saiyan again.
