When Bobby Petrino was hired in 2014, his buyout was $10 million. That is what the school would have been owed if Petrino left before June 30, 2017. It dropped to $8.5 million until 2018, then to $7 million in 2019 and finally it drops to $5 million.

In April 2016, he signed a new 7 year contract but the buyout clause stayed the same.

But a clause in his contract reduces that buyout if athletic director, Tom Jurich is no longer athletic director. After today’s events, Petrino’s buyout is $4.25 million per his contract.
