If you’re reading this, we made it. After a long offseason full of turmoil, slander, and changes, basketball season is finally here. Louisville begins its season today against visiting George Mason at 2pm inside the KFC Yum! Center as 19-point favorites.
It’s no secret that this is David Padgett’s first season as Louisville’s Head Coach, and as Forrest Gump would say, “that’s all I have to say about that.” As fans, it’s time to focus on the game being played and nothing else. I believe Coach Padgett will do a great job and I can’t wait to see this team play under his leadership.
Louisville’s opponent today is George Mason. They enter this game 1-0, with a 67-65 win over Lafayette. Guard Jaire Grayer led George Mason with 19 points and 9 rebounds in their first game, and while I don’t know much about their team, I’d assume this will be the guy to watch.
Louisville’s starting 5 will more than likely be Quentin Snider, Deng Adel, VJ King, Ray Spalding, and Anas Mahmoud. Much like their two exhibition games, Louisville will have a noticeable size advantage today.
As I said before, today marks the moment when basketball should be just that, basketball. It’s hard to forget about everything that happened over the last few months, but this is the time to try. Despite any recent turmoil, Louisville still floors a very talented team with a lot of young potential to go along with veteran production. This is the beginning of a new era, and should be seen as an exciting opportunity and nothing else.
Cheer our guys on, give Coach Padgett and the players a standing ovation when they’re announced in the pre-game, and let’s kick off another successful basketball season.
Prediction: Louisville 83 George Mason 67.
