Cards Chop Down Stanford 52-24

The Louisville Cardinals gave their fans plenty to celebrate on Saturday, delivering a convincing 52-24 victory over Stanford at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium.

Coming off a bye week, Jeff Brohm’s squad showed tremendous resilience, offensive firepower, and the ability to finish strong when it mattered most.

The victory improved Louisville’s record to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in ACC play.

While the Cardinals faced some adversity in the first half, they responded with an explosive second-half performance that turned a competitive contest into a dominant win.

Offensively, quarterback Lincoln Kienholz delivered another impressive performance, throwing for 250 yards and two touchdowns while adding a rushing touchdown of his own.

Kienholz demonstrated his ability to distribute the football and make plays when the Cardinals needed them. Wide receiver Tre Richardson was his favorite target, putting together a career-best performance with 10 receptions for 140 yards.

With Louisville missing leading receiver Lawayne McCoy, Richardson stepped up in a big way and gave the Cardinals a reliable playmaker in the passing game. The offense finished with an impressive 545 total yards, showing just how dangerous this unit can be when everything clicks.

However, the biggest star of the afternoon might have been running back Isaac Brown, who put together a monster performance. Brown rushed for 139 yards and three touchdowns while adding another touchdown reception for a career-high four total scores. His 75-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter was the perfect exclamation point on an outstanding afternoon.

Louisville finished with 296 rushing yards, consistently finding room to operate on the ground. Brown’s explosive running ability gave the Cardinals another dimension offensively and demonstrated why he can be such a difference-maker as the season progresses.

Defensively, Louisville had its share of challenges in the first half, surrendering 270 passing yards and three touchdown passes to Stanford quarterback Davis Warren. Stanford even managed to tie the game at 24 early in the third quarter, putting pressure on the Cardinals to respond. And respond they did!

The Louisville defense came up with a crucial interception that helped shift the momentum, while Tayon Holloway recovered a fumble and returned it 31 yards for a touchdown. That defensive score was a turning point, and the Cardinals never looked back. Louisville forced timely mistakes, recorded two sacks, and held Stanford scoreless in the fourth quarter.

After allowing 24 points, the defense finished strong when the game was on the line. Ultimately, this was the kind of performance we wanted to see: an explosive offense, game-changing defensive plays, and a team that refused to let adversity derail its afternoon.

The Cardinals outscored Stanford 28-0 after the Cardinal’s final touchdown, turning a 24-24 tie into a 52-24 blowout. Louisville also recorded 22 first downs and converted six of 11 third-down attempts, keeping the offense moving throughout the game.

The victory gives the Cardinals positive momentum heading into next week’s road matchup against Georgia Tech. There is still room for improvement, particularly in defending the pass, but the second-half response was encouraging. If Louisville can build on this performance, the Cardinals have plenty of reasons to believe they can make noise down the stretch in ACC play. Go Cards
