Tramain Thomas Added To UofL Football Staff

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Two-time all-Southeastern Conference defensive back Tramain Thomas was named a defensive quality control coach at the University of Louisville, football head coach Bobby Petrino announced on Friday.

A four-year letterwinner at Arkansas, Thomas was a standout safety for Petrino, who served as the head coach of the Razorbacks from 2008-11.

“Tramain has a bright coaching career ahead of him,” Petrino said. “As a player, he was voted a two-time team leader, and he will be an excellent mentor for our young players. I’m excited to bring another sharp defensive mind to our staff.”

During his four-year career, Thomas was named a Yahoo! Sports All-American in 2011 after finishing second on the team with 91 tackles and a team-best five interceptions. He was tabbed a second-team all-SEC selection in 2010 and the Most Outstanding Player in the Auto Zone Liberty Bowl.

Following his successful collegiate career, Thomas signed as an undrafted free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2012. Thomas later played one season in the Arena Football League with the Iowa Barnstormers.

Thomas joins the Louisville staff after serving two seasons coaching the defensive backs as a graduate assistant at Midwestern State. Thomas was instrumental in leading the Mustangs to a conference title last season, while helping the unit finish fifth nationally in red zone defense and first in the conference in scoring defense.

The Winnie, Texas, native began his coaching career as a defensive backs coach at East Chambers High.

Thomas earned his master’s degree in sport administration from Midwestern State in 2017 after graduating with his bachelor’s degree in criminology from Arkansas in 2013.
