The new era of Louisville basketball began with a win, an ugly win, but a win. The Cards took on one of the lesser known state schools, Nicholls State. The first half largely belonged to the Cards, with Louisville leading by 10 at half. But, Nicholls had a lead at the 12 minute mark of the first half and forced the Cards to earn that lead at half. Louisville shot 50% from the floor in the second half, but they only outscored Nicholls by 3 in the second. The Cards shot 55 free throws, hitting on 42 of them. The 42 points from the free throw line helped the Cards to a 85-72 win.
Louisville was led in scoring by Steven Enoch (15 pts), who hit all 9 of his free throw attempts. Darius Perry (14 pts), Jordan Nwora (12 pts) and VJ King (12 pts) also scored in double digits. The Cards won the rebounding battle 39-30, but did turn the ball over 3 more times than Nicholls.
Coach Mack was not pleased with his team after the game and he assured us that they have plenty to work on in practice. The Cards have a few days off until they return to the KFC Yum! Center on Tuesday to face Southern.
