Cards In The Pros: May 2019 Updates

Major Leagues
-Nick Burdi has been placed on the 60 Day Injured List. In game action through April, Burdi is 2-1 with a 9.35 ERA, has 17 strikeouts in 8.2 innings and a 1.62 WHIP in 11 games.

-Chad Green was recalled by the Yankees on May 12th and has been used out of the bullpen. Since the recall to the big club, Green has been predominantly used as an Opener, the hot new trend in baseball and the Yankees have been successful with it when Green is the Opener, 3-0 in fact. In the month of May, Green totaled 7.2 innings, gave up 4 earned runs and struck out 10.

-Will Smith made his Major League debut for the Dodgers on May 27th and had possibly one of the best walk-up songs. If you have not seen the video of him walking up to the “Fresh Prince” theme song it is a must. Since being called up, Smith is hitting .278 with one double, one walk-off home run and an RBI.

-Adam Engel was optioned down to Charlotte on May 6th. Since then Engel is slashing .237/.290/.763 with 4 doubles, 3 triples, and 4 home runs.

-Matt Koch was optioned down to Reno on May 3rd, since then he is 1-1 in 4 starts with 11 strikeouts in 19.1 innings. He currently has a tough ERA of 7.91 to go along with a WHIP of 1.76.

-Adam Duvall is playing well for Gwinnett with 12 doubles, 17 home runs and 42 RBI’s in 50 games.

-Brendan McKay was called up to Durham to join Nick Solak and since then has been strong both at the plate and on the mound. In two starts on the mound, McKay has 10 strikeouts in 10 innings and has given up only 1 run on a home run. Hitting wise, McKay has 2 hits in 13 at bats including 1 home run.

-Josh Rogers started 5 games for Norfolk and had varying starts throughout. He currently is 2-6 with a 9.18 ERA in 49 innings. His best outing of the year was on May 1st where he went 7 innings, struck out 5 and only gave up 1 earned run.

-Nick Solak is having a strong start to the year in Durham batting .281 with 10 home runs, and 26 RBI’s and posting an OPS of .873.

-Cole Sturgeon is in his second season at AAA and is having a decent start. He is hitting .252 with 4 doubles, a triple and a home run.

-Kyle Funkhouser was placed on the 7-day injured list and is currently on a rehab assignment in Lakeland, Florida.

-Corey Ray was just recently removed from the Injured List.

-Derek Self has performed well as the closer for the Fresno Grizzlies collecting 5 saves in 6 opportunities. In 36 innings pitched, Self has 29 strikeouts and 3.00 ERA.

-Kyle McGrath has bounced around between multiple levels between starts and outings from the bullpen, McGrath is 4-1 with a 4.41 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 34.2 innings.

-Dean Kiekhefer’s signed a minor league deal with the Oakland Athletics and they have started him at AAA and placed him on the Injured List.

-Zack Burdi has been roughed up a bit in Birmingham by giving up 12 earned runs in 15.1 innings of work. He does have 19 strikeouts though.

-Drew Ellis is hitting well, not as powerful on the home runs to start the year, but still overall well for the Generals. He has an OPS of .762 with 12 doubles, 3 home runs and 23 RBI’s.

-Lincoln Henzman was just moved to Birmingham. On his way there he was 3-2 with a 4.61 ERA in 9 starts with 18 strikeouts in 41 innings.

-Grant Kay is on the 7-day injured list to start the season for the Montgomery Biscuits.
A Advanced

-Devin Hairston continues to struggle with Carolina, hitting .187 with 5 doubles and 2 stolen bases.

-Blake Tiberi continues to stay gap to gap for the St. Lucie Mets with 16 doubles and 17 RBI’s with an OPS of .703.

-Colby Fitch is slashing .222/.356/.640 with 3 doubles, 1 triple and 8 RBI’s.

-Devin Mann is playing very well for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes with an OPS of .830 to accompany 11 doubles, 1 triple, 9 home runs and 37 RBI’s.

-Kade McClure has one start in Winston-Salem where he went 6 innings gave up 1 earned run and struck out 5.

– Austin Conway is currently on the 7 Day Injured List.

-Josh Stowers is currently on the 7 Day Injured List.

-Riley Thompson continues to pitch well for the South Bend Cubs. In 9 starts he is 3-3 with a 2.45 ERA to go along with 45 strikeouts in 40 innings.

-Adam Wolf continues to struggle through 10 starts this year. He is 2-7 with a 6.99 ERA. In 46.1 innings he has 47 strikeouts.

Rookie Level

-Liam Jenkins is still in extended spring training prepping for the start of rookie level ball with an influx of new draft picks.
*-Sam Bordner has not been assigned a team yet for the Miami Marlins.
