Recruiting Roundup: Jordan Watkins

As many CSZ readers likely already know, 2020 3 Star ATH Jordan Watkins recently decommitted from a certain school about 80 miles down I-64. This decommitment comes after several visits to Louisville, including an unofficial visit on 10-4-19 and a visit on 10-14-19 with Louisville commit and friend Josh Minkins Jr.

Watkins is a speedy, playmaker for Butler High School in Shively. He will likely play receiver at UofL. Our recruiting staff decided to each look at his highlights and give our thoughts on Watkins abilities. Also, we will each give our predictions for where we think Watkins may end up playing in college.

What would UofL Football be getting in Jordan Watkins?

Shawn: Jordan Watkins is an extremely fast player. Butler primarily uses him at WR and slot receiver, but, as evidenced by his most recent game against PRP, they don’t mind having him line up as a RB or even as a QB.

Watkins runs a 4.38 and the film shows it. So many of his highlights show him just leaving defenders in the dust. In his red uniform, he resembles the Flash. Watkins has very good hands and is very good at tracking the ball in the air. Watkins, despite only being 6’0, can get up and high point the ball. He’s also a quick twitch player, able to cut sharply and change direction quickly.

A true game breaker that is a threat to take it to the house every time he touches the ball, Watkins can be used in a variety of ways on the field. You won’t find many players in the country as fast as him.

Sam: Jordan Watkins at 6’0 180 will be a seemingly perfect fit for coach Satterfield’s offense. Jordan’s speed is what makes him so intriguing. He has great top end speed and is deceptively strong at the top of his routes. Watkins has great footwork, footwork that enables him to show some wiggle to avoid tacklers and show off his top end/straight line speed.

Higgy: Jordan Watkins is a very electric player. His size & speeds makes for a great wide receiver. He also has great leaping ability to go up and get the ball. I have a feeling he will play the slot because of his size.

Does Watkins end up staying home to be a Cardinal?

Shawn: My belief is that Jordan Watkins will be a Louisville Cardinal. He fits what Scott Satterfield wants in a skill player. He’s fast, he’s physical, and he is full go all the time.

Sam: Yes, I’m predicting that he signs with Louisville.

Higgy: I am confident that he will be in Cardinal uniform next fall. I can’t wait to see him as a Cardinal!
