The Louisville Cardinals will face the USA Basketball Women’s National Team in an exhibition on February 2nd, 2020.

The USA Women’s National team is in pursuit of its seventh consecutive Olympic gold medal.

This is the first time the Cardinals will play the USA National Team.

“What an unbelievable opportunity for our program and our fans to host the USA National Team,” said Louisville women’s basketball head coach Jeff Walz. “They have had so much success, they are an inspiration to women and girls everywhere. It’s an honor to play them on our home court and I’m looking forward to our fans packing the KFC Yum! Center.”

The USA team, headlined by Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird, is participating in a NCAA tour to prepare for the 2020 Summer Olympics.

“Louisville’s athletic and they get up and down the floor, so they mirror some of the international players,” said USA National Team head coach Dawn Staley.

USA Basketball has received commitments from eight athletes to participate in the team’s five training segments between November 2019 and April 2020. In addition to Bird and Taurasi, it’s anticipated that the following athletes will compete against Louisville:

Elena Delle Donne (Washington Mystic/Delaware)

Skylar Diggins-Smith (Dallas Wings/Notre Dame)

Sylvia Fowles (Minnesota Lynx/Louisiana State)

Chelsea Gray (LA Sparks/Duke)

Nneka Ogwumike (LA Sparks/Stanford)

A’ja Wilson (Las Vegas Aces/South Carolina)

The remaining four roster spots will come from the 2019-20 USA Basketball Women’s National Team pool.

Angel McCoughtry is a part of the National Team pool and could secure a spot on the roster to face Louisville.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday at 10 a.m. and can be purchased for $10. Tickets are available at GoCards.com/USA or by visiting the KFC Yum! Center or Cardinal Stadium box offices.
