TWICA: December 8th

Welcome back Card fans, to your weekly review of Cardinal Athletics! That’s right, its TWICA time! I know there are a lot of negatives going around our community over the past few days, but lets focus on our love for the Cardinals and look at the week that was!

*All records and stats are accurate as of December 8th, 2020

Football (3-7, 2-7 in conference)

Our football team had an off week last week, so no stats or results to report here.

This Week: Season finale! This has been a rough season, but let’s be glad all the young men on the team were actually able to play through the horrible pandemic ravaging our country right now. We will end the season with our senior night vs Wake Forest (4-3, 3-3 in conference).

Kickoff: Noon

Where to Watch: Regional Sports Network

Why YOU Need to Watch: As I stated above, it is senior night. With present conditions as they are, most of us won’t be able to be in Cardinal Stadium to support all the young men that wore the red, white, and black the last 4 seasons. We should at least tune in and let them know how much we appreciate them (especially considering we don’t know if we will be extended a bowl invite even with there being no record restrictions this year)

#25 Men’s Basketball (4-0)

We were supposed to have 2 games this past week. However, due to the Covid situation within the team, we were forced to cancel our game against UNC Greensboro. Yet, we were able to play our game against Western Kentucky. While it was a close game at the half, the Cards were able to pull away and win by a score of 75 to 54, thanks to great performances by freshman Dre Davis (21p/2a/2r), Sophomore David Johnson (17p/8a/6r), and Grad Transfer Carlik Jones (18p/4a/6r).

Our other game this week, vs UNC Greensboro, was cancelled due to the aforementioned Covid issues in the Cardinal program.

A special shoutout to 3 of our players for making the Wade Houston Tipoff Classic All-Tournament team. David Johnson, Dre Davis, and Carlik Jones (who also won the MVP of the event). And another shoutout to freshman Dre Davis, who won the ACC Freshman of the Week award!

This Week: Our only scheduled game for this week, at #13 Wisconsin, was postponed due to the aforementioned Covid issues within our program, with no make-up date revealed as of this writing.

#2 Woman’s Basketball (4-0)

We had 2 games this past week, vs #24 DePaul in Bubbleville (Uncasville, Conn.), and vs UT Martin at home. We were able to come away with Ws in both of those games!

In the first game, we defeated (absolutely destroyed) #24 DePaul by a score of 116-75. In fact, the 116 points scored by the Cards were a program record! The Cards were led by 5 players in double figures: senior Dana Evans (20p/7a/3r), junior Elizabeth Dixon (12p/0a/4r), freshman Olivia Cochran (19p/2a/10r), redshirt junior Kianna Smith (21p/6a/6r), and freshman Hailey Van Lith (21p/1a/4r). It was one of the finest performances I’ve personally ever seen from the Cards, dominating from beginning to end.

The 2nd game was against UT-Martin, and we once again came away with the W by a score of 85-67. The Cards were led in the game by 3 double-digit performances: redshirt junior Kianna Smith (10p/0a/1r), freshman Hailey Van Lith (10p/3a/7r), and senior Dana Evans (26p/1a/1r). It was a good performance with their eyes set on ACC play to begin this week.

This Week: 2 games on the docket for this week, as we begin ACC play!

  • 12/9: at Duke (Tip is at 7 PM, TV is Regional Sports Network) Prediction: Cards 72, Duke 55
  • 12/13: vs North Carolina (Tip is at 4 PM, TV is the ACC Network) Prediction: Cards 78, North Carolina 58

Well, that does it for this week folks. Like I said before, I know we’ve had some really negative things happen in the programs in recent days, but we still need to support them 110%! Make sure to tune back in next week for another edition of TWICA, and as always, Go Cards!!!
