Press Release from the University of Louisville Athletic Department:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women’s soccer standout Emina Ekic made history Wednesday night when she was selected by Racing Louisville FC with the fifth pick in the 2021 NWSL Draft. She is the first UofL player to be selected in the NWSL Draft.
As a senior, Ekic became the first player in program history to earn ACC Offensive Player of the Year honors and the first Louisville player to be named conference offensive player of the year was since 2013 when Christine Exeter was named American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
She started all nine games in the fall and led the team and ranked second in the ACC with seven goals and 17 points. She played a role in 10 of the Cardinals’ 11 goals.
She was named second team United Soccer Coaches All-American following her sophomore and junior seasons.
The Louisville, Ky., native concludes her collegiate career with 29 goals, which ranks fourth all-time in program history, while her 19 career assists ranks second all-time.
This is truly a dream come true! I'm so glad I was able to share this moment with my family & friends.
I can't wait to continue to write my story here in Louisville with @RacingLouFC! pic.twitter.com/sMVNWfOMzK
