Chris Mack Press Conference 3/15

Louisville head men’s basketball coach Chris Mack joined the media on Monday afternoon after it was announced on Sunday night that his team was excluded from the 2021 NCAA tournament. Louisville finished the season with a 13-7 overall record. The Cards were listed as the “First Team Out” and, therefore, will be the first replacement team in the case another program withdraws from the field before Tuesday night.

If there is one thing to take away from Monday’s presser, it is that just about no one at Louisville is expecting that the team will get called up to compete in the NCAA Tournament. Teams have before 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday night to withdraw from the tournament and are only instructed to do so if they think they will not be able to field a team on the court by this weekend.

Unlike the regular season, just one or two positive cases will not knock out a team. There would have to be a full-on outbreak for someone to withdraw. With more than 24 hours until the deadline, it is not impossible. However, it is highly improbable that anyone will be forced to drop out.
