The Cards faced #19/16-ranked Virginia Tech on Saturday for a doubleheader at Ulmer Stadium. The Cards dropped the opening game of a 4-game series on Friday, 0-3.

In game one of Saturday’s doubleheader, the Cards could only muster two hits. Despite their lack of hits, they played VT scoreless through 5 innings. But in the 6th inning, the Cards allowed two unearned runs. Those two runs ended up being the difference in the game as the Cards lost 2-0 in game one.

In game two of the day, the Cards bats started warming up a bit as they produced six hits and their pitching only surrendered five hits. Tech jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning, but junior transfer Makayla Hurst hit a solo bomb in the bottom of the 2nd to pull the Cards within one. Hurt went yard again in the bottom of the 6th. The 2-run shot gave the Cards the lead and, despite Tech getting a runner to third in the 7th inning, the Cards closed it out getting the 3-2 victory.

Louisville moves to 4-8 in conference play and 10-13 overall. The Cards will play VT one more time on Sunday at 1 pm then head to Pittsburgh to play four games against Pitt on 4-1, 4-2 and a doubleheader on 4-3.
