Louisville Football is still working to sure up their roster for the upcoming 2021 season. While they have a wealth of talent in the defensive backfield, they have a dearth of experience among that talent. They are looking for some talented and experienced players to help out this coming season. With that in mind, the Cards have secured a commitment from a very talented and experienced DB from the FCS ranks. Qwynnterrio Cole, who played for historic national HBCU power Alcorn State, has committed to play his final year for UofL.

A native of Memphis, TN, Cole stands 6’3 and weighs in at 190 lbs. Playing primarily S for Alcorn State from 2017-2019, he had an impressive career. He totaled 170 total tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 3 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 8 interceptions, and 6 pass breakups. He also blocked a kick. Alcorn State didn’t play in 2020 due the Covid-19 pandemic. His best single season for Alcorn State was arguably the 2019 season. Cole accumulated 86 total tackles, half a tackle for loss, a forced fumble, 5 interceptions, 1 pass breakup, and a blocked kick.
Cole’s efforts earned him numerous accolades. Among them, he was named both a two-time All-HBCU All-American and he was named a FCS Preseason All-American before the 2020 season. In 2018 and 2019, he was named to the All-SWAC First Team.
Qwynnterrio Cole will likely play S and/or possibly the Card OLB/S hybrid position. Cole is a very versatile DB, displaying the ability to play more in-the-box as a run stuffer or to play centerfield and defend the pass. He’s very smart and is able to read both plays and a QB’s eyes to find himself around the football and give himself opportunities to create turnovers. With 8 interceptions, 6 pass breakups, 3 forced fumbles, and 2 fumble recoveries, its obvious that Cole has shown his read-and-react ability is high-level.
The Louisville defense definitely likes to create some havoc and turn over the opposition. Hence, the addition of Qwynterrio Cole is a very good one. He will give the Louisville defense the mix of talent AND experience it needs.
Later today, member of our recruiting team will have a story out with more in-depth breakdowns of Qwynnterrio Cole’s game, along with highlights. Stay tuned to CSZ!
