He had offers from UK, Tennessee, Michigan, Michigan State, and Iowa State. According to 247sports composite rankings, he is the 401st-overall prospect in the 2022 class and the 35th-best at his position.

Shawn’s Breakdown:
Caldwell is a do-it-all type of player in the defensive backfield, having lined up at both safety and corner. He’s got very good instincts and makes a living reading the QB’s eyes. Once he reads the QB, he trusts his read, reacts quickly, and makes either big hits or interceptions. Speaking of interceptions, Caldwell will intercept passes and likely intercept them a lot. He’s got excellent ball skills due to his also playing wide receiver offensively. His hands are soft, but strong, able to real in a pass meant for the opponent. Exceptional speed and quickness allow him to be a dangerous returner of interceptions, as he is a threat to make a pick a pick-6 at all times.
I think Caldwell’s skills translate to the safety position. He’s got excellent size for that position and it allows him to use his read-and-react skills to their fullest. However, I think he may be used as a Swiss Army knife and lineup at safety and corner depending on situations and the offenses personnel.
UofL needs help in the defensive backfield immediately and they got it in Jeremiah Caldwell. It doesn’t hurt they flipped him from their arch rival. To pick up a big-time 2022 prospect this late in the process at a position of need is a huge, huge victory for Coach Scott Satterfield and staff. I expect Caldwell to get playing time next year. Whether it will be the 4 games allotted for a redshirt or more will depend on Caldwell. I wouldn’t be shocked if he ends up on the two deep as an immediate backup.
