Cards Top WKU 94-83

The Louisville Men’s Basketball team picked up its first win of the season on Wednesday night with a 93-84 win over Western Kentucky at the KFC Yum! Center. The Cards now sit at 1-9 on the year. WKU is 8-2.

Prior to Wednesday, Louisville had lost six consecutive games by 19 points or more. They had only scored 70 points one time all season. Five players in total scored double digits for the Cards. El Ellis became the first player in Division-1 to have a 30-point and 10-assist game this season.

Head coach Kenny Payne was under some major heat so far. Louisville has been on of the worst teams in all of college basketball to start the season. For the first time though, we saw something to be excited about moving forward.

Now, we know that Louisville is at least capable of beating a decent team. WKU entered Wednesday night at 8-1 and off to its best start in 15 years. If you can beat them in that fashion then you can certainly beat some of the other teams in the bottom half of the ACC. Any notion that the Cards would only win two or three games all year seems like a reach now.

Louisville won impressively, but the intensity and effort we saw on Wednesday must be replicated moving forward without exception. Do that and the fan base will handle it much better than they have this past month.
