Elite 2024 Cardinal Commit TJ Capers Reclassifies To 2023 Class

Louisville football got a huge boost to their 2023 roster with the addition of 4 Star Edge TJ Capers. Originally a Class of 2024 commit for UofL, Capers has chosen to reclassify and will join Coach Jeff Brohm’s Cardinal program this fall.

The 6’2 230 lb Miami, FL native had received offers and interest from some of the top programs in the country before committing to the Cards back in January. Among those programs were Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, and Michigan, among others. 247sports ranked him as the 51st-overall player nationally and the 7th-best at his position.

It was a shock to many Louisville fans to see Capers end up as part of this year’s class. He was a very productive player for Columbus High School last season. According to 247sports Andrew Ivins, Capers amassed 70 total tackles, 11 QB hits, and 7 sacks in route to a state championship.

While Capers is listed as an edge, he’s a highly versatile outside linebacker. Obviously, he can be an instant impact pass rusher, but he’s very good against the run as well. Capers is a sure-tackling, hard-hitting player that can possibly see the field this season situationally and maybe even get more playing time towards the end of the season. Regardless, with Capers joining the program this fall, it’s a big get in terms of showing the college football world Louisville is back recruiting with a vengeance in the south Florida area.

Capers will provide a highly talented player at a position of need. While he’s obviously young, the talent is so ridiculous it’s hard not to see him finding playing time this season. Having a top-50 player on your first roster has to have Coach Jeff Brohm chomping at the bit to get his team out on the field. I know it has Cardinal fans feeling that way.
