California Transfer Myles Jernigan Commits to Louisville Football

There is no rest for college football coaches anymore. The transfer portal has made the sport a virtual year-round endeavor. Luckily, Louisville football has a head coach that understands this and thrives. Coach Jeff Brohm just completed his spring practice season which saw some defections from the team. He immediately went into the transfer portal to replenish his roster with talent. Today, he bolstered his linebacking corps with a talented OLB/Edge from the University of California Myles Jernigan.

Jernigan is a graduate transfer that has 1 year of eligibility remaining. He is ranked as a 3 Star prospect in the portal rankings by 247sports. Whether starting for Cal or coming off the bench, Jernigan was a significant contributor for the Golden Bears during his 4 years in the program. He originally redshirted and is currently a redshirt senior.

Over his 3 seasons, Jernigan recorded 67 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, 2 pass breakups, 3 forced fumbles, and 2 fumble recoveries. His best individual season was his 2022 campaign which saw Jernigan record 51 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery. He will now bring his 4 years of college football experience to the Cards.

Jernigan will likely play a role similar to Stephon Herron. He will be a solid pass rusher who is dependable, knows his assignments, and will be where he needs to be and is coached to be.

It’s a very solid pickup for UofL in the portal. If Jernigan can find and build on his 2022 form, he may be an absolute steal. With the ability this staff has shown so far in developing and improving the roster, I believe Myles Jernigan could have a heck of a final college football season.
