Louisville Lands Veteran PG Chucky Hepburn

Pat Kelsey has landed his (more than likely) starting point guard in Wisconsin transfer Chucky Hepburn.

Chucky started all 103 games in his Badger career and is coming off a season where he averaged 9.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 2.1 steals per game.

The 6-2,195 guard has been a winner his entire career, helping take Wisconsin to the big dance two out of his three seasons. He was selected to the 2024 All-Big Ten All-Defensive team, All-Tournament team, and honorable mention.

Against No. 8 Purdue during Hepburn’s freshman campaign in the ‘21-‘22 season, he scored 17 points and hit a game winning three with 1.5 seconds left to clinch the Big Ten regular season title.

Fast forward to this past season’s Big Ten Tournament Semifinal against a No. 3 Purdue squad, Hepburn played 38 minutes in a 76-75 overtime win, whipping up 22 points (9-12 FG, 1-2 3PT), 3 steals, and 4 assists on zero turnovers.

The combo-guard is aggressive at scoring the ball in the paint and using his IQ to get both him and his teammates open.

Chucky Hepburn excels in everything needed to succeed highly in Pat Kelsey’s offense. His 3.9 assists doesn’t pop out as a point guard, but his 21% assist rate shows he is proficient at getting his teammates high percentage scoring opportunities.

With an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.3, he’s great at controlling the pace and using his playmaking ability to create for others.

The Omaha native isn’t just a star running the offense, but he is one of the top defending guards in the entire country as well. His 73 totals steals ranked 18th in all of Division I last season while his 2.1 steals per game ranked 37th.

Hepburn joins fellow incoming seniors Aboubacar Traore, Reyne Smith, Terrence Edwards Jr., and J’Vonne Hadley. Aly Khalifa is a senior as well, but will redshirt the 2024-25 season.

James Scott and recently committed Koren Johnson are the only two members of the current roster with more than one season of eligibility left.
