UofL Football Recap: Cards Block & Swat The Yellow Jackets

Pregame Notes:

Good afternoon Card Nation, on this extremely hot day. The 2-0, 19th-ranked Louisville Cardinals faceoff against the 2-1 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Louisville defeated Georgia Tech in Brohm’s first career game as coach of Louisville football, 39-34. Today, the Cards look to improve to 3-0 and 1-0 in conference play for the second consecutive year under Coach Brohm. Louisville will be without starting tailback Maurice Turner (high ankle sprain) and key reserve TJ Capers this game. Georgia Tech feels like they let one slip away last year and is coming into L&N Stadium looking for revenge. Cards must take care of the football and try to limit the dual threat capabilities of Haynes King to come out victorious today.

1st Quarter:

The Louisville defense forced a quick 3-&-out on Tech’s first possession. The Louisville offense was able to get a couple first downs, but the drive stalled and Brock Travelstead’s 52-yard field goal attempt was blocked. The Yellow Jackets capitalized on the confusion of the Louisville defense and scored on a 23-yard quarterback run. Louisville’s 2nd possession of the game was riddled with penalties (3) and ultimately forced them to punt the ball. Louisville’s defense came up with a fumble recovery for the touchdown and tied the game at 7.
