2nd Quarter:
The Louisville offense started to gain some traction, after struggling for most of the first quarter. Tyler Shough connected with Chris Bell for a 37-yard touchdown reception, and Louisville took a 14-7 lead. The defense continued to wreak havoc on the Tech offense until the last drive. Georgia Tech was able to connect on a long pass and convert on a 4th down try to score right before the half. Louisville took a 17-14 lead into the half.
Halftime Stats:
T.O.P: 18:17
Passing Yards: 191
Rushing Yards: 39
Sacks:
T.Os: 1 Forced Fumble (recovered for a TD)
3rd Quarter:
Coach Brohm and the offense usually comes out pretty sharp in the third quarter. Today was a little different because Georgia Tech plugged up some holes and there were some questionable calls by the officials that helped slow down the Louisville offense. Georgia Tech was able to tie the game at 17 with a field goal of their own, but Shough connected on a beautifully thrown deep pass to Brooks for a 57-yard touchdown. Louisville took A 24-17 lead into the final quarter.
4th Quarter:
In a quarter that saw a lot of action, Louisville did what they had to do to pull away with a victory from a very aggressive Georgia Tech team. Louisville got a stop at the goal line on 4th and inches. On the very next possession, Shough tripped over the running back’s foot and committed a safety. On the Yellow Jackets possession, with momentum, the Cards blocked a field goal attempt, and returned it for a touchdown. Louisville took a 31-19 lead with that touchdown and never gave up another score. Cards are 1-0 in ACC play and 3-0 overall, after beating Georgia Tech.
Final Stats:
Passing Yards: 269 (2TDS)
Rushing Yards: 57
Post Game Notes:
Louisville improves to 3-0 on the young season. The Cards couldn’t get the running game going, but the defense and the special teams more than made up for it. Louisville scored on a fumble recovery and a block field goal for a touchdown. Louisville had 57 yards on 27 rushing attempts. The holes were just not there this game. The Cards have a lot of things to clean up before their next game. Louisville committed 7 penalties (69 yards) and probably kept some points off the board today. Louisville will face Notre Dame next week in South Bend.
