Photo Gallery: VB vs Penn State – NCAA Championship

I’ve been covering UofL sports for about nine years with Cardinal Sports Zone. Photographing volleyball was something I fell in love with quickly. Spending so much time photographing these athletes I start to grow attached to them because I’m also a fan. The past five years have been something that goes beyond special. Three straight Final Fours and two NCAA Championship matches over that time is something I will never forget. There have also been so many players that have come through and given everything they had like Aiko, Tori, Claire, Anna S, and Amaya, just to name a few. However, on this team, the city rallied behind their two hometown heroes, Elena Scott and Anna DeBeer. The whole city would have given anything for those two to be standing under the falling confetti raising the championship trophy with their teammates. And those two gave every single ounce of energy, love and hard work into trying to bring that championship home to the city. That is something we all recognize and appreciate. For that, we all say THANK YOU.

As the confetti fell from the rafters at the YUM, I had an uneasy feeling in my stomach and I had to get out of there. Emotions were flowing and I felt bad for the players and their families but there was nothing I could do to change that. If I could, I would. I couldn’t stand to stay around for the post game press conference so I headed home. Therefore, there are no post match, locker room or press conference photos.

Making the championship game, however, is an accomplishment that is still to be celebrated. So, enjoy the images I captured of the Championship day.
