Pregame Notes:
It’s officially game day, and the kick off to year 3 of many in the Brohm Era. Louisville is ranked just outside the Top 25 at the moment, but with losses by #25 Boise State and #17 Kansas State, Louisville could find themselves inside the Top 25 soon. IF they handle their business on the field. Louisville finished last season 9-4, with wins vs Clemson (in Death Valley), a rivalry win against uk (in Lexington), and a Bowl victory over Washington. This year, like the previous two, Coach Brohm has a new quarterback at the helm, a quarterback who’s probably more talented than the previous two. The Cards do bring back the best running back duo in the country with Isaac Brown and Duke Watson. Although there are a lot of new defensive backs, the linebackers and defensive line bring back a lot of returning talent such as: TJ Quinn, Stanquon Clark, Antonio Watts, Jordan Guard, and Rene Konga. Today the Cards take on the EKU Colonels.
1st Quarter:
With all the talk about Lacy and Bell as the wide receivers, and Brown and Watson at the running backs, Miller Moss’s first pass attempt and completion went to TreyShun Hurry for 9 yards. Louisville struck first, with a 31-yard run by Isaac Brown, after a 10-play, 85-yard drive. Lacy added to the lead with a 93-yard punt return, after a Clev Lubin sack on 3rd down stalled EKU’s opening drive. EKU’s second possession was halted once again by a Louisville sack on 3rd down, this time by defensive end AJ Green. Miller Moss scrambled for an 8-yard run to expand the Louisville lead to 21-0. Miller Moss had more rushing yards (8) than the entire EKU offense. Louisville took a 21-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
2nd Quarter:
EKU converted on their 1st 3rd down of the game with a QB keeper for 12 yards. However, on the next 3rd down, Lubin came up with his 2nd sack of the game. Isaac Brown took his 2nd carry of the quarter for 68 yards for a TD, and put the Cards up 28-0. Miller Moss threw a beautiful ball to Duke Watson for 30 yards and a touchdown. Louisville was showcasing their abundance of talent on offense. EKU still had a lot of difficulties moving the ball. Louisville continued to control the line of scrimmage and move the ball as Keyjuan Brown scored from 1 yard out to give the Cards a 41-0 lead. As the end of the half approached, EKU returned an interception for a touchdown on a high pass and tipped ball by Louisville. EKU’s luck continued to haunt Moss, as he threw a 2nd unlucky interception. EKU wasn’t able to capitalize on the 2nd INT and Louisville took a 41-0 lead into intermission.

3rd Quarter:
Brady Allen got the start at QB to begin the half. In Miller Moss’ Louisville debut, he went for 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. Louisville punted for the 1st time in the game, but once again, EKU struggled to move the ball. Brady Allen connected on a 31-yard pass to Kris Hughes for another touchdown for the Cards and gave the Cards the 48-0 lead. The Cards threw another interception, this time by Brady Allen. Louisville took a 48-7 lead into the final quarter.
4th Quarter:
Duece Adams started this quarter, the third Louisville QB to play. Adams was able to showcase his arm a few times, as well as his legs, but RS freshman Shaun Boykins was the featured player in the quarter. Louisville capped a 70-yard, 11-play drive with a 21-yard field goal by Ranvier, The Cards led 51-14. Scary moment with 2 minutes remaining, as EKU running back Telly McCallister had to be carted off the field. EKU added a 38-yard field goal with just over 1 minute left. The field goal capped a drive that lasted over 7 minutes for the Colonels. Louisville wins 51-17.
Final Stats:
Passing Yards: 313 (2 TDs)
Rushing Yards: (232 4 TDs)
Post Game Notes:
Louisville improves to 1-0 on the young season. The offense is really, I mean really good. Despite the 2 unlucky interceptions, 1 being a pick six, the offense did what they wanted to do. The defense made big play after big play. They had a number of sacks and plugged up the run really well. Coach Brohm won’t be too please with the 3 interceptions on offense and the sloppy play on both sides of the ball that led to countless penalties. The Cards will stay home as they get ready to face a talented and tough James Madison team on September 5th at 7 pm.
