Ones To Watch: Boston College

Welcome to this week’s edition of Ones to Watch. I will show you the statistical leaders on the team, talk to you about some things I observed on film, & whatever else catches my eye. I will not be stepping on JK’s toes for his EYNTK piece (much), but giving you a little to be on the lookout for. FYI, if you haven’t checked out EYNTK I suggest you do. It’s fantastic. Here we go…

The 1-6 Eagles are on a disappointing 6 game losing streak. BC is averaging 27.4 ppg while giving up 33.86. Not a good sign for them. It is even worse in Conference play with a deficit of 37-15. After dispatching Fordham 66-10, The Eagles have lost big to Clemson, Pitt & UConn. They also were done zero favors by their schedule going forward. After facing the rising Cards they have Syracuse, SMU, ND & GT. Ouch. QB has been sacked 19 times.

They have rushed for a total of 701 yards, good for 100.1 yards per game. Woof. Through the air they have passed for 1907 yards, good for 272 yds per game. Passing is their strong suit Offensively through 7 games. They have committed 11 turnovers including losing all 6 balls that they have fumbled. They have only forced 7.

Offensively they are averaging 372 yards per game. They are averaging 428 yards per game. Their starting QB, Dylan Lonergan, has the following stat line so far. He has completed 132-197 passes (67%), thrown 3 interceptions, 1394 yards, 9 TD’s with a long of 56. He is averaging 232 yards through the air per game this season.

Receiving wise, Lewis Bond (50 for 505 & 0 TD, Yes 0), Reed Harris (20 for 337 & 3 TD), & Jeremiah Franklin (26 for 266 & 1 TD) are leading the way this season. They have 9 short yardage gimmick receiving TD’s as well.

On the ground, Turbo Richard (88 rushes for 442 yds & 5 TD) & Jordan McDonald (50 rushes for 225 yds & 1 TD) make up for 667 out of the teams total 872 yards on the ground. The rest of the RB room has 3 including 1 by the QB.

Their defense has only forced 6 turnovers this season. They have sacked the opposing QB 12 times this season. UVA has given up 29 TD’s this season. Get ready to add more to that total Saturday night. Their leading tacklers are DB KP Price (56), DB Omar Thornton (45), & DB Owen McGowen (37). With their top 3 tacklers being DB’s it should come as no surprise considering their defense has gibing up nearly 1800 yards through the air. They allow over 400 yards per game in total Offense. Opponents have got into the red zone 29 times & scored 27 of them.

Historically this should be the clunker. With the Cards as 23.5 point favorites for the match-up Saturday night at 7:30 on the ACC Network.
