Volleyball: Cards win Big East Tournament!

On Sunday afternoon, the UofL Volleyball team did something that no other Big East team has done since 2007 (St. John’s). They won both the Big East regular season and the Big East Tournament Championship! They swept Marquette, who was the host school, with scores of 25-19, 25-23, and 26-24. They improved their overall season record to an amazing 28-3!

Volleyball: Cards win awards at Big East Banquet

It has been a tremendous year for the UofL Volleyball team to this point. They won the Big East regular season title, and are now attempting to win the Big East Tournament and hopefully make a big NCAA Tournament run. You don’t have that kind of success without great players and a great coach, and those things were recognized at the Big East Banquet in Milwaukee, Wisconsin prior to the tournament starting.

Cardinal news and notes: weekend review

Another weekend has passed and the University of Louisville football team is still undefeated. The Cardinals (6-0) traveled to Pittsburgh (2-4) this past weekend to take on the Panthers in their Big East conference opener. Prior to Saturday’s game, Louisville was 1-6 in their conference opening games since joining the Big East, this coupled with a 11 a.m. kickoff had some fans nervous as the Cardinals looked to improve to 6-0 for the first time since 2006. Field hockey falls to UConn; Volleyball sweeps Seton Hall

University of Louisville field hockey fell to No.3 Connecticut Saturday afternoon in front of a home crowd at Trager Stadium. With the 2-1 loss, the Cardinals record falls to 7-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Cardinals started the game with offensive pressure but were unable to capitalize on early opportunities. The Huskies (14-0) managed to score on two corner shots and take a 2-0 lead into half. The Cardinals rallied in the second half behind Becca Maddock’s team-leading eighth goal of the season but it wasn’t enough as the Huskies earned their fourth Big East victory of the season. The Cardinals return to action tomorrow as they host No.11 Iowa in the annual “Stick-it-to-Cancer” game at 1 p.m.

No.17 Louisville volleyball improved their record to 15-2 on the season after sweeping Seton Hall. The Cardinals swept the Pirates in straight sets 25-21, 25-23, 25-20, respectively. The Cardinals were led by the play of Kaitlynn James who had ten kills and no errors, Lola Arslanbekova who recorded 17 kills and eight digs and Caitlin Welch who had a match-high 18 kills. The Cardinals return to the KFC Yum! Center tomorrow to face Rutgers at noon and Monday when they face No.9 Texas at 7 p.m.
