Field hockey falls to UConn; Volleyball sweeps Seton Hall

University of Louisville field hockey fell to No.3 Connecticut Saturday afternoon in front of a home crowd at Trager Stadium. With the 2-1 loss, the Cardinals record falls to 7-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Cardinals started the game with offensive pressure but were unable to capitalize on early opportunities. The Huskies (14-0) managed to score on two corner shots and take a 2-0 lead into half. The Cardinals rallied in the second half behind Becca Maddock’s team-leading eighth goal of the season but it wasn’t enough as the Huskies earned their fourth Big East victory of the season. The Cardinals return to action tomorrow as they host No.11 Iowa in the annual “Stick-it-to-Cancer” game at 1 p.m.

No.17 Louisville volleyball improved their record to 15-2 on the season after sweeping Seton Hall. The Cardinals swept the Pirates in straight sets 25-21, 25-23, 25-20, respectively. The Cardinals were led by the play of Kaitlynn James who had ten kills and no errors, Lola Arslanbekova who recorded 17 kills and eight digs and Caitlin Welch who had a match-high 18 kills. The Cardinals return to the KFC Yum! Center tomorrow to face Rutgers at noon and Monday when they face No.9 Texas at 7 p.m.
