More Cardinal News & Notes: Friday Morning Edition

We have more news & notes to release this morning. We talk about our upcoming radio debut, conference news, basketball recruiting, and football spring practices. Check it out!

*CSZ on the radio– This Sunday, CSZ will debut on 95.3 WFBR FM radio. It is a Christian radio station based in Mt. Washington, KY and has been on in Bullitt County for 8 years now. We will be on a sports call-in show with both UofL and UK discussion. The show will air from 6pm-7pm on Sunday evenings. The members of CSZ will take turns being on the show based on our individual schedules. The show will be streamed live on reach95.com and 678sports.com. For more information, read our previously released story here.

*Conference News– It appears that the Big East and West Virginia have reached a settlement that will allow West Virginia to leave the conference and join the Big 12 for the 2012 season. In the deal, West Virginia will pay the Big East $11 million, and the Big 12 will cover the remaining $9 million. What does this mean for scheduling in the 2012 football season? Well, future Big East member Boise St. may just be able to slide in early and take the Mountaineers’ spot. If they do that and just take West Virginia’s schedule, then the Broncos will come to Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium this season. So what happens to UofL in all of this conference madness? Well, we won’t say anything official just yet, but find out what Jeremy thinks in his blog.

*Basketball Recruiting- Last night, Coach Pitino watched 2013 center Moses Kingsley from Mississippi. He is ranked as the 4th best center in his class. In his game, Kingsley posted a triple-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 blocks. Not a bad performance in front of the head coach! On Monday, the Cards will be hosting Syracuse and will also have a recruit at the KFC Yum! Center. Jaquan Lyle, a 5* shooting guard from Evansville, Indiana will be making his third trip to UofL. He is in the 2014 class. To watch video of Lyle, check our 2014 recruiting page.

*Football Open Practices– Coach Charlie Strong announced that the first 3 practices of Spring Football will be open to the public this year. Those dates will be Wednesday March 21, Friday March 23, and Saturday March 24. The times have not been announced yet, but it is likely that the Wednesday and Friday practices will be in the evening, while the Saturday practice will be in the morning. We will let you know for sure.
