Busy Friday for UofL sports

We can’t express how excited we are to be covering ALL UofL sports this season! With that being said, the Cards have 3 teams in action on Friday!

Field Hockey

After finishing fourth in the Big East last season (10-9, reached Big East semi-finals), head coach Justine Sowry and her team look to improve this season. They have 3 All-Big East preseason selections in Erin Conrad, Dominique Pasqualichio, and Alyssa Voelmle. Louisville Field Hockey starts their season on Friday at noon as they face Indiana in a scrimmage at Trager Stadium. Admission is free!

Men’s Soccer

The 7th ranked men’s soccer team will play its second exhibition match of the season as they take on Wisconsin in Fort Wayne, IN. The match will begin at 6:00 p.m.. In their first exhibition on Sunday, the Cards tied UAB 1-1, and then won the game on penalty kicks 4-3. This is their 2nd of 3 exhibiton matches, and the regular season begins next Sunday, August 26 at Maryland.

Women’s Soccer

UofL opens up the regular season Friday night at 7 p.m. when they face Butler in Indianapolis, IN. The Cards are coming off of their best season in school history in 2011. They won the Big East National Division Title, won a school record 14 games (14-7-3 overall), made it to the program’s first ever Sweet 16, and finished the season ranked 24th in the final NSCAA coaches’ poll!

This season, the Cards are picked to finish 2nd in the Big East National Division behind Notre Dame. Junior forward Christine Exeter was picked as the preseason offensive player of the year in the Big East, and was the only unanimous selection to the All-Big East Preseason Team!
