Cardinal Sports Zone: Weekend Preview

Louisville football is on a bye week before they begin the Big East portion of their schedule however there are still other athletic programs in action this weekend. In honor of breast cancer awareness month, Louisville women’s soccer (7-3-2) will host a “Think Pink” match tonight against Villanova at Cardinal Park (7 p.m.). Breast cancer survivors receive free admission with an RSVP. The Cardinals will close out the weekend with a Sunday afternoon match against Georgetown at Cardinal Park (1 p.m.).

Louisville field hockey (7-5) is set to host two ranked opponents this weekend at Trager Stadium. The Cardinals will face No.3 Connecticut tomorrow at noon. The Cardinals will conclude the weekend this Sunday as they face No.11 Iowa at 1 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game as part of the “Stick-it-to-Cancer” promotion. Pink UofL merchandise will be sold and donations will be accepted with all proceeds going to cancer research.

The 17th-ranked Louisville volleyball (14-2) team will play host to three matches this weekend. The Cardinals begin the weekend tomorrow as they face Seton Hall at Cardinal Arena at noon. The Cardinals will return to the Yum! Center with a pair of games against Rutgers Sunday at noon and will host No.9 Texas Monday night at 8 p.m.

Coming off a Big East victory over DePaul Wednesday night, the men’s soccer team (6-4) will travel to Syracuse for a Big East matchup Saturday night at 7 p.m. The Cardinals return home Oct.10th as they play host to Indiana.

Last season, Louisville softball posted a program best 55-5 record on their way to a ninth straight NCAA regional appearance. This weekend the team will conclude their fall season with two games on Saturday at Ulmer Stadium. The Cardinals will face Bellarmine at 12 p.m. and Tennessee State at 2:30 p.m.

Both the men’s and women’s tennis teams are competing in respective tournaments this weekend. The men’s team is competing in the ITA All-American Championships on Saturday and Sunday in Tulsa, Ok. and the women’s team is competing in ITA Women’s All- American Championships in Pacific Pallisades, Ca.

The men’s golf team will competing in the Firestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio next Monday, Oct. 8th and Tuesday, Oct.9th.
