Cards defensive tackle Jamaine Brooks posted an interesting picture on Instagram Monday afternoon. Zeke Pike was a highly touted QB coming out of Dixie Heights High School in Fort Mitchell, KY. At 6’6 and 225 lbs, he was going to bring a lot of size to the position. He signed with Auburn and did not make it through his first summer there, getting kicked off the team for multiple off-the-field issues.
Coach Charlie Strong took a chance on Pike and brought him to Louisville before the 2012 season. It was said that Pike was coming here to play tight end, not quarterback. This makes for an interesting picture. Personally, I was always skeptical about them saying that he was going to be a tight end. This kid had offers coming out of high school from (to name a few) Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Notre Dame, USC, West Virginia, Oklahoma State, Clemson, Miami (FL), and Tennessee. And yes, that is just a few if you look at ALL of the offers he had. A kid that gets those offers as a QB doesn’t just show up and play tight end.
But I could be wrong. We will certainly see how this plays out as spring ball is approaching!
