Raymond Spalding has just become the 2nd commitment in the class of 2015 for Rick Pitino and the Cards. The power forward from right here in town (Trinity High School) is listed at 6’9 and 200 lbs and he is a 4-star prospect across the four major recruiting sites. He chose the Cards over Indiana and Xavier. Duke had also started to show interest as of late.

Throughout this summer and the AAU season, Spalding has seen his stock rise. He was on the radar for the Cards of course, but he wasn’t thought to be a front-runner in the minds of the coaches. Even when he visited in June and left campus with an offer, you got the feeling that 5-star Stephen Zimmerman was still option #1 and Spalding may be the backup plan.

The more that he played, the more that Spalding proved that he should be the top option. Rick Pitino simply couldn’t just wait around for Zimmerman. You have to take the local kid that is this talented. For what it’s worth, Zimmerman still has a visit scheduled to Louisville on September 26, so we will see how that goes.

Spalding joins 5-star wing player Deng Adel as the commits in the 2015 class so far. What that means is the class is shaping up to be a great one for Coach Pitino.

Here are some highlight videos. The first one looks like it came from 1975, but it is recent, so I had to include it.
