55 Season 2 Episode 10

55

This week on 55………………..

We talk Notre Dame, Basketball’s Opening game and how did your favorite Card teams do in their respective tournaments? Injuries, returns, and a return from suspension?. The first #55Guest writer is displayed and I’m already sorry I gave him the floor. I was wrong about P.J. Dozier, as was every one else since we all got intel from his camp. lol. So get ready for the ride. Without further interruption, here are the things from this week that stand out to me the most. The most ridiculous, interesting and factual things I came across. This is 55……….

1st Quarter:

The opening game of the 2014-15 College Basketball season has come and gone and man was it glorious! Behind Montrezl Harrell’s 30 points and Terry Rozier’s 18, the Cards dispatched Minnesota 81-68. This was a meeting of the Pitino clan in Pitino fashion. The whole family was there to support the two teams, who flew down together, and also attended the christening of Richards son Jack. The on court action was stellar despite heavy foul trouble. Onuaku and Jones fouled out and Anton, Rozier, Blackshear and “the flagrant one” David Levitch all collected 4 fouls. Along with leading the team in scoring, Harrell had 7 reboundsL and Rozier added 6. Rozier also had 4 assists and 4 steals. Chris Jones had 13 points and Quentin Snider and Wayne Blackshear both had 7. The Cards jumped Florida in the AP poll to go to #7 this week as a result of the victory. Montrezl Harrell was also named National Player of the Week today. The Cards take on Jacksonville State tonight at 7 and Marshall on Friday at 9.

The Lady Cards had their first action of the season on Friday at IUPUI. The Cards won 89-69 behind Super Freshman Mariya Moore and her 22 points. Bria Smith had 15 and Myisha Hines-Allen had 11. In game 2 on Sunday, 5 players reached the double-digit plateau in scoring in a 77-43 rout of UT-Martin. Myisha and Bria had 14 points, Mariya had 12, Sara Hammond had 11 and Jude Schimmel had 10. By the way there are so many super freshman, and more coming!!!!!!! We hope, I mean we know! The Cards host Belmont Thursday and Ball State Sunday. BE THEREEEEEE!!!!!!!

2nd Quarter:

Ok. A few weeks ago I announced that this week we would have a guest writer for one segment of 55. I immediately regretted that once I picked the guy to do it. The guy is a jet flying, Dm diving…son of a gun. I am not expecting much so just about anything will be sufficient. Welcome to 55 is Turtle…SMH. Here you go:

*Lights go out……*

Jerome teased it in last weeks edition of 55…. The wait is finally over! Turtle is here to save this edition of 55!

It tooks months of me lobbying Jerome to get me involved in a 55. I think the debut of The Oopty Oop frightened him! Jerome texts me just minutes after my debut blog and says “Turtle, you’re in 55 next week…” It’s ok, Jerome.  You can’t deny the TurtleCaholics what they’ve been longing for!  I couldn’t have done it without my followers… I would like to thank you all individually….

**************************

I’m sorry to interrupt him but I will never EVER get those 5 minutes back….

I’m sorry guys and no the oopty oop is not a venereal disease…at least I don’t think so.

If you have never watched wrestling you won’t get anything he said and please have your pets spayed or neutered. Oh yeah and get Shawn a Date!

If you would like to write something for the next edition where I get a guest writer, send me a DM at @Jeremy_CSZ and we will talk. Hopefully you will talk about UofL athletics. He did not. Sigh….

Moving forward.

3rd Quarter:

Here is your week in Cardinal Athletics:

swimming

Swimming and Diving had a dual meet with Tennessee and Auburn on Friday. The #5 Men’s team defeated #11 Auburn 171-129 and #14 Tennessee 167.5-130.5. The #18 ranked Louisville women fell to #14 Tennessee 166-134 and to #7-ranked Auburn 185-114. From GoCards.com: “I am very proud of our program for the way we competed today,” said UofL head coach Arthur Albiero. “Our women won a good number of races but we fell a bit short on the final score. Our men stepped up their performances again today and we earned two good wins against good teams. I was impressed with our energy especially on the road.” The Cards will host the UofL Invite next weekend.

Louisville Volleyball

The Volleyball team took their season record to 15 wins and 12 losses after a 1-1 week this week. The Cards beat Clemson on Friday 3-0 behind 15 kills from Tess Clark. Katie George had five aces. Maya McClendon added 14 kills and Janelle Jenkins had 11 kills and 11 digs for a double-double. In Saturdays action the Cards took their ACC record to 7-8 with a 0-3 loss to Wake Forest. Maya McClendon had 11 kills and Janelle Jenkins added nine kills and two blocks. The Cards host Duke and UNC this week.

Soccer

#14 Men’s Soccer had a very memorable week. Gutierrez scored in the 76th minute to give the Cards a win in their first ever ACC Tournament game defeating UNC 1-0. On Friday Vitalis, Velazco score goals in 2-1 victory for Louisville over #1 ranked Syracuse. This set up a battle vs #19 Clemson in the Cards first ever ACC Tournament title game on Sunday. Ricardo Velazco scored quickly for the Cards in the 13th minute giving the Cards a 1-0 lead that it would not give up until Clemson tied it up with 3 seconds left after an error in time management on the Cards part. Clemson scores again in the 2nd OT giving them the ACC crown. Heartbreaking, just heartbreaking. The Cards were selected as the #13 seed in the NCAA Tournament were they will host the winner of the Saint Louis/Tulsa game on Sunday at 7:30 in Lynnsanity. The Cards lost 1-0 to Saint Louis on September 9th.

From GoCards.com

Edwin Kibichiy and Ernest Kibet medaled and Emily Bushey finished in the top 30 to pace the University of Louisville cross-country team at the NCAA Southeast Regional on Friday at E.P `Tom’ Sawyer State Park. . Men’s Cross Country Finishes Eighth and Women Finish 10th at NCAA Regional.

Field Hockey 045

The 2014 Field Hockey season came to an end on Saturday as the #10 Cards lost to the #8 Stanford Cardinal 2-1 in OT. Elisa Garcia delivered her seventh goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1. But the game ended 4 minutes into OT after a Stanford goal. This has been a monumental season for the Cards and one we won’t soon forget.

Women’s Rowing had 3 Top 5 finishes and Women’s Soccer was not selected for the NCAA tournament.

This has been your week in Cardinal Athletics…………..

4th Quarter:

-This week we will face the fighting Irish of Notre Dame in football in case you have been living under a rock. The game has lost some of its luster after 2 straight losses by ND. However I am still as hype about it and me and Steve hope to bring you some good stories while we are there this weekend.

-Speaking of Steve, he got married Saturday and still is…I’m proud

-Apparently there are rules for tailgating

-Also Lorenzo Mauldin and Pio Vatuvei may be medically cleared for ND, and James Quick may be reinstated for that game as well.

-Coach P talked about his signing class today:

-Next guest host opportunity will come the Monday after the uk/UL Football game….

-As most of you know, Will Gardner has been lost for the season

-It was just revealed that Louisville will be the host of the 2016 regional in Men’s Basketball. It will be the first Regional held in the Yum! Center for Men’s Basketball and also the first in Louisville since 1987 at Freedom Hall.
