This week on 55………..
Todd Grantham gets PAIDDDDDDDDDDDD. Guys commit, de-commit then re-commit. The Football schedule is out and a plethora of pics from our resident photog Tim Haag. Marquee matchup tonight on big Monday and a wrap-up from Saturdays epic comeback vs UNC and much much more…
Without further adieu, here are the most ridiculous, outlandish, interesting or just downright obnoxious things I have heard this week. THIS is 55…..
-If you haven’t already, go check out Tim Haag from @UofLBirdsNest post here on CSZ for a complete photo gallery from the UNC game. We will get more into the game later.
-Terry Rozier is NOT walking through that door next year….but was named ACC Player of the Week for the second time this season. Rozier averaged 22.5 ppg and 7.5 rpg in two victories this week. not too shabby.
-As you may have seen in Cardinal Catch-up, DC Todd Grantham turned down the DC position with the Oakland Raiders to stay at Louisville. Later details surfaced that the Coach will receive a 400k raise for spurning the Raiders to stay at Louisville. With him turning down Oakland and OC Garrick McGee turning down his alma-mater Oklahoma U, this has been a CLUTCH off-season for UL Football and proves that UL is in it to become a power player in College Football.
This place rocks! No better place to be than in the Ville! Place 2 be next 4 yrs! #wecoming #Championship pic.twitter.com/maTT1w0LhH

-Signing Day is just 2 days away and there has been a ton of drama this way. Redwine commits, de-commits then re-commits. GG is 100 to UL and now he is wavering (allegedly) and Lamar Jackson, who was once thought to be untouchable, was reported to be swaying. Devante Peete committed today after a battle with FSU and Devonte Fields committed yesterday. NSD drama is never over until signing day occurs. Expect flips for and from and even some guys that we haven’t heard much about once the signing day party occurs Wednesday at 5:30 at the B&W at PJCS. Admission is free and it is a blast!

-Here is the 2015 Football schedule:
A lot of people are downing it but I think it is a schedule that is solid and one we have been waiting for here at UL. It’s only 220 something days away!
-The polls are out and the Lady Cards stay at #8 in the AP Poll and the men move up one spot in both polls to 8 and 9 respectively.
-On Feb 15th at 10pm I will be a guest on my guys Matt (@HokieSmash) and Jeff (@TalkinACCSports) podcast for AllSportsDiscussion.com. I look forward to being on the podcast. Time to catch you up on this week in Cardinal Athletics….
–Men’s Basketball: The Cards went 2-0 this week after 2 tough games. Wednesday night after what was a game that was in jeopardy of being cancelled, The Cards pulled off a tough 81-72 win at Boston College. Chris Jones scored 28 points and Terry Rozier had 23. Montrezl added 12 & 5 but Chris led the team in rebounding with 6 boards. Rozier added 5 assists and 5 rebounds to his 23 points. Wayne Blackshear was the only other Card in double figures with 10 off of 1-7 shooting from the field but 7-7 from the free throw line when we needed him. It was good to get out of that trap game with a win because BC is a good shooting team at home and despite their record, a scrappy team.
Then came the epic battle with UNC. The Cards found themselves down 43-25 with 17:51 remaining and all was lost. People were quitting Twitter, throwing away their UL gear and worse…Then came the Boom…..
Ok, different sport but same result. The Cards go on a 53-25 run to take this game by 10 in OT. Montrezl Harrell lead the game in points (22) rebounds (15) and steals (2). Terry Rozier also had 22 points and added 10 rebounds. Chris Jones continues his stellar turnaround scoring 17 points and recording 4 assists and 5 rebounds. The Cards travel to Miami on Tuesday before heading to #3 Virginia at 5:30 on ESPN on Saturday night. We will have Montrezl’s dunk later in 55……
–Women’s Basketball: Jeff Walz recorded his 200th win in their only game of the week last week vs #25 Syracuse. The Cards blew the doors off of the Orange 78-58. Sara Hammond had a near Triple-Double with 13 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists. Myisha Hines-Allen led the way with 23 points off of 11-14 shooting. Mariya Moore added 21 and Jude Schimmel added 13. The Cards next battle #15 Duke tonight at 7 on Big Monday before hosting Pitt on Sunday.
–Swimming & Diving: (From GoCards.com)
The No. 4 ranked University of Louisville men’s swimming and diving team beat No. 12- ranked Indiana 151-149 but fell to host No. 9-ranked Ohio State University 190-110 in a two-way dual meet Saturday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio. The No. 12-ranked Indiana University women’s swimming and diving team edged the No. 18 University of Louisville Cardinals 170-130 Friday evening at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington, Indiana.
The Cards had a rough week in the water but are both top 25 teams and will surely bounce back. The Cards are out of action until Feb 14.
–Track: (From GoCards.com)
The Louisville track and field concluded their weekend at the Indiana Relays with five individual wins. Freshman Josh Hall added another victory to his already impressive start while senior Calvin Arsenault won the 60m hurdles and junior Ben Williams won the triple jump in his season opener. Redshirt senior Maggie Gilbertson and sophomore Bre’Yana Wash also picked up victories for the Cards. The Cards travel to South Bend and Blacksburg next week for events.
–Women’s Tennis: The Women’s Tennis team is on quite the roll as they move to 7-1 on the year. They beat Xavier 5-2 and NKU 7-0. They won only 12 matches all of last year and didn’t win their 7th until the last day of February. The Cards host Pitt & St. Louis on Saturday.
-Men’s Tennis (Home), Softball (Vegas), Lacrosse (Ann Arbor) and Women’s Golf (Orlando) all compete this week as well.
This has been your one stop shop to catch up on the Cardinal Athletic program, this has been your week in Cardinal Athletics.
-Shout out to Teddy Bridgewater as he was named Pepsi Offensive Player of The Year
-I am contemplating letting @ThatBoysGood have a guest spot in 55 in the future. I am also contemplating jumping into a bathtub with a toaster in it. Same results. lol. Last time I had a guest contributor Turtle happened. Stay Tuned.
-You all know by now that I am a bit of a wrestling fan as well. Was raised with it, had family members who did it. It’s my guilty pleasure. Next Monday I will be a guest on The Piledriver Podcast with Daniel Spencer. It too is on iTunes for subscription. If you like wrestling check it out. If you don’t, keep it moving.
-Last but not least, This week the McDonald’s All-American teams were announced. 3 Women’s commits and 0 Men’s commits despite all being 4/5 star guys. It truly sickens me that guys who are lower ranked got spots all because of what shoes they wear. 2 of the kids that made it were UL recruits or commits and picked Nike schools over us. How about not snubbing guys like you did Shaqquan Aaron last year and these guys this year in the future McDonalds? I will not be paying you with lovin anytime soon…
-As always, don’t forget to follow the great people of CSZ on Twitter. @justinrenck, @Stiz_CSZ, @Darylfoust4 & myself @Jeremy_CSZ. Until next time CardNation…This was 55….
