The #5 Cards completed the sweep of #10/12 NCST this weekend at the Jim. So what does this mean in the overall landscape of the ACC? What do the Cards have to do to win the division and/or conference? Let’s break each team down:
Miami: 40-9 overall 19-6 in the ACC (.760)
Louisville: 42-10 overall 19-8 in the ACC (.704)
FSU: 33-17 overall 15-8 ACC (.652)
- Miami swept Pitt
- Louisville swept NCST
- FSU lost 2 out of 3 to Duke and 4 straight before winning Sunday
The ACC will have a Thursday/Friday/Saturday end of the season since the conference tournament starts Tuesday, May 24th in Cary, NC.
Here is where it gets tricky.
Scenarios:
(All scenarios in red indicate a Louisville Division title)
If FSU wins all 3 vs Miami this Thursday-Saturday:
- Miami would finish at .678 and FSU would be at a .692 and would secure the overall ACC title for the winner of the Atlantic
- If Louisville wins 1 vs Wake Forest, UL will be at .667 and FSU would be overall and Division champion.
- If Louisville wins 2 vs Wake Forest, UL will be at .700 and be Atlantic Division AND ACC Champions for the second year in a row.
- If Louisville wins 3 vs Wake Forest, UL will be at .733 and be Atlantic Division AND ACC Champions for the second year in a row.
If FSU wins 2 vs Miami:
- Miami would finish at .714, FSU would be at .653
- If Louisville wins 1 vs Wake Forest, UL will be at .667 and Atlantic Division champion. Miami would be overall champion.
- If Louisville wins 2 vs Wake Forest, UL will be at .700 and Atlantic Division champion. Miami would be overall champion.
- If Louisville wins 3 vs Wake Forest, UL will be at .733 and be Atlantic Division AND ACC Champions for the second year in a row.
If FSU wins 1 vs Miami:
- Miami would finish at .750, FSU would be at .615
- If Louisville wins 1 vs Wake Forest, UL will be at .667 and Atlantic Division champion. Miami would be overall champion.
- If Louisville wins 2 vs Wake Forest, UL will be at .700 and Atlantic Division champion. Miami would be overall champion.
- If Louisville wins 3 vs Wake Forest, UL will be at .733 and be Atlantic Division and Miami will be overall champion.
Needless to say, if FSU gets swept by Miami:
- Miami finishes at .785 and wins the ACC in all scenarios.
- FSU finishes at .576
- Louisville are your Atlantic Division champs.
It would be nice to win both titles with no doubt. What if you had to choose one or the other? How do you think this will play out? Here’s hoping for 2 wins from FSU,3 from the Cards & a 2nd straight ACC Division and Conference championship.
